The Best Metal Detectors Guide

You can also pair it with something like the incredible Minelab pointer, which gives you an excellent combo for searching.

Going on an adventure is no longer as simple as it used to be. Most of the world is discovered, and the secrets that remain are pretty much either under the ocean or deep in the Earth’s crust. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to go on an adventure anymore because metal detecting is pretty much the name of the game today. It’s something that only adventurous individuals seem to go for, and it’s something that requires the use of metal detectors. They are the detectorists trusty tool, and there are a lot of them that you can definitely rely on for detecting plenty of different metals, including gold.

Minelab Vanquish

There are very metal detectors that can be said are at the level of the Minelab Vanquish. It’s often considered one of the best metal detectors on the market, not because it has numerous features – which it does, but rather that its genius comes in the form of usability and accessibility. More often than not, the people that praise the Vanquish say it’s amazing for beginners and even better for veterans. It’s lightweight and collapsible, and it’s ideal for detecting different types of metal, such as gold, silver, jewellery, and more, due to its multifrequency technology. It gives you amazing and accurate readings which will definitely spare you the time of digging deep only to find something as mundane as a nail. You can also pair it with something like the incredible Minelab pointer, which gives you an excellent combo for searching. The Vanquish’s coil is also submersible up to a metre, so you can very safely use it on a beach.

Garrett Ace

The Ace series by Garrett is one of the finest you can expect in a metal detector. It’s often used by a lot of veterans in the hobby, who often say that the Ace is more than equipped to handle pretty much everything detecting can muster against you. One of its finest features is its excellent discrimination, which is detectorist lingo for saying it can finely differentiate between metals. If you set it on detecting silver, it will only find silver, and it’s not a device that’s been known to make mistakes. The Ace series is also waterproof, not unlike the Vanquish, although it’s waterproof only at something like 70 centimetres. Typically, the best model in the series is the Ace 250, although 150 is an amazing budget version that comes with almost all of the 250’s features.

Minelab Equinox 800

If you’re looking for a metal detector that’s entirely intuitive to use, then you can’t go wrong with the Equinox 800. Minelab have really done an amazing job with this one because it can detect deeper and quicker than even fan favourites, such as the Vanquish and Ace 250. Like its other Minelab cousins, the Equinox 800 also utilises the very popular multifrequency technology. On this detector, this technology is even more advanced, as it allows you to use it on four distinct settings, which are park, field, beach, and gold. Its battery lasts up to 12 hours, and some packages even come with wireless headphones. More great news about the Equinox 800 is the fact that it’s waterproof up to 3 metres.

XP Deus Metal Detector

Sometimes, you might need a detector to help you find small and tiny objects. There are very detectors that are as qualified to find tiny valuables such as the XP Deus Metal Detector. It’s ideal for finding items such as jewellery and other small metallic items. This detector also has an incredible detecting depth, so much so that you’re most likely going to be surprised, as it has often outclassed heavy-hitters such as the Garrett AT Max. The Deus will last you a very long time and has a tonne of customisable options that will allow you to use it on any terrain. It has a battery life of nearly 30 hours and is entirely waterproof.

Minelab CTX 3030

While a bit on the pricier side of metal detectors, Minelab’s CTX 3030 is a fantastic metal detector that will be able to find metals at very low depths. In fact, Minelab is also known to design and manufacture military-grade metal detectors, and that fact is quite evident with the CTX 3030. It can scan deeper than you might think, and its LCD screen lets you see multiple items underground so that you can discern what is what immediately. It also comes with wireless headphones, and it’s waterproof up to 3 metres.

Minelab Go-Find 22 Compact

You might be surprised to see this metal detector on the list. While it’s definitely not nearly as powerful as the other detectors we’ve listed here today, it has an advantage that other detectors do not have. That advantage is that can easily be used by kids. Sometimes, kids look up to their parents and want to go out on an adventure with them, but can’t because metal detectors are heavy. The Go-Find 22 Compact, which is an above-average detector on its own, is lightweight and collapsible, and it can even sync with a smartphone app. Pretty much all kids can easily use them, and on top of that, the metal detector is actually quite good and very affordable. It’s a good enough purchase on its own, but if you plan on having a sidekick with you on the adventure, it’s pretty much the perfect tool.
