Types of Traffic Lights: Benefits of Installing Them In Various Situations

Contrary to what many people believe, traffic lights can be used in many more situations other than intersections. You can find them in industrial settings, parking lots, mines and other places where traffic needs regulation.

Traffic Light Colours

These devices consist of a few different lights, depending on the model. Generally, those lights will include: stop (red), go (green) and two other yellow lights that tell people to wait. These are used in different scenarios depending on what kind of road it is, if there is a crossing or not and so on.

The stop light, also known as the stop sign, indicates that traffic must stop before crossing the intersection. This light is always placed on the left side when facing the road. The go light, or the green light, tells you that it is safe to cross the intersection. This light is always placed on the right side of the road when facing traffic.

Yellow lights are used to warn people that they should stop if they are about to cross an intersection and also as a way to tell people that there is another light coming up (i.e.: yellow-green, yellow-orange).
