The Advantages of Having a Digital SLR Camera
While every type of camera has their own advantages, many professionals agree that a digital SLR camera has much more. Not everyone will see these advantages as it also comes down to how well you know the camera and how much experience you have in photography. Of course, after you have gotten used to the camera and have built up some experience, these advantages do become quite clear. There are many reasons as to why a digital SLR camera is the one most professionals reach for and below we will be going over all the reasons they do.
Better Display
While the display on most cameras is pretty good, there are functions you get with a digital SLR camera that you don’t with others. You can certainly do a lot more with the pictures you have already taken with the display you have on an SLR camera than you could with an average point and shoot camera.
Faster Results
There is no waiting with this type of camera like some other cameras that need to be developed. You can easily see all the shots you have taken as you take them because they are all available on the display. You can also share them instantly and print them instantly. Photos that need to be developed in a dark room is something that very few modern photographers know how to do.
Easier Storage
More experienced photographers who develop their own photos know just how much space all their negatives take up, especially after a lifetime of work. Digital images don’t have this problem because they can be stored in a compact way. You can easily store all your photos on your computer, on CDs, DVDs or on a USB. This also makes emailing them or showing them to people a lot easier.
Lower Cost
Buying film for other cameras can be really expensive, a single shot with a camera will cost you money. Shooting pictures with a digital SLR camera is actually a lot cheaper. It wouldn’t cost you anything at all except for the storage you choose to put it on which could be once again a CD, DVD, or USB drive. These cameras are great for the photographer who doesn’t want to waste film or money.
Easier Dust Removal
Dust will always get into your camera, no matter what camera you use. Dust is especially bad when you are using film because it can easily ruin the entire roll. An SLR camera, however, only needs to vibrate the sensor briefly to remove the dust from unwanted areas. Some cameras have a setting that does this for you, other cameras might have a button, it all depends on the model and make of the camera you end up buying.
More Flexibility
ISO speed is something that is usually determined by what kind of film is used in a camera. Since a digital SLR camera does not use film you can change it yourself. You can change anything from ISO sensitivity, white balance, and a lot more. This makes controlling the outcome of your photo a lot easier.
Faster Editing
Unlike a traditional camera where you can’t actually change much when the photo is taken, you can with an SLR camera. This makes editing later on a lot faster and a lot easier. You can change things like contrast, exposure, you can also add effects all before you take a photo to be edited. Most photographers know just how long editing a whole shoot can take so cutting time off this process is priceless.
Clear Images
While image quality is something that varies from camera to camera, digital SLR cameras usually have the best range of image quality. Most manufacturers have stopped producing older cameras so it’s only normal that new technology and upgrades go into their SLR cameras. This means that any new improvements on audio and image are going to be found in the digital SLR cameras.
